## How an office framing package moves from drawings to handoff
- Review. Confirm existing and proposed uses, occupant load, suite boundaries, exits and barrier-free path against OBC 3.1.2, 3.3, 3.4 and 3.8, so you start from a set that already answers the inspector's questions.
- Overlay. Overlay the architectural plans with ceiling, sprinkler, mechanical, electrical, security and furniture layouts, so a data-cabling clash surfaces before material is ordered.
- Identify. Identify rated walls, smoke-control boundaries, shafts and demising partitions before takeoff under OBC 3.1.8, 3.2 and 3.3, so your quote separates rated assembly work from ordinary footage.

Part 9 steel-stud provisions apply to your non-loadbearing walls; a loadbearing steel wall moves to a Part 4 design instead under OBC 9.24.1.1. Interior non-loadbearing steel studs need at least 0.46 mm base-steel thickness under OBC 9.24.2.2, and their runners must be at least as thick as the stud with flanges at least 30 mm deep under OBC 9.24.2.3, so a lighter runner under a heavier stud isn't a substitution we make. Any opening wider than one stud space gets at least double studs at each jamb under OBC 9.24.2.4, and board fasteners must penetrate at least 10 mm through the steel framing under OBC 9.24.3.5. Runners attach to the supporting structure at no more than 600 mm centres under OBC 9.24.3.2, which is what keeps a tall partition from working loose at the head.

Toronto requires scaled, fully dimensioned, signed and dated drawings for non-residential interior alterations, identifying existing and proposed uses, plumbing fixtures, reflected ceilings, wall assemblies, fire separations and the framing above. The permit holder is responsible for requesting the required municipal inspections, so that responsibility doesn't quietly become yours by default.
Your mechanical and sprinkler trades inherit the coordinated wall and ceiling zones we leave behind, and your electrical, data and security trades inherit the in-wall routes and backing, so an uncoordinated route becomes a change order for someone else.
